Lewes Neighbourhood Plan



The South Downs National Park Authority has published the submitted Lewes NDP for consultation in accordance with Part 5 of the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012.  The consultation is running from 9:00am Monday 11th June to 11:59pm Monday 23rd July 2018.

Background Information


Lewes Town Council has submitted its Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) to the South Downs National Park Authority for independent examination. Lewes as the county town of East Sussex and the largest market town in the National Park is a fundamental part of the development plan for the South Downs National Park.


The progression of the Lewes NDP to submission stage is a key milestone. The plan contains planning policies on Housing, including allocations for at least 220 new homes in Lewes, as well as policies on Low Cost Housing, Ecosystems Services, Heritage, the Environment, Sustainability, Design, Working & Shopping, Getting Around and Local Green Spaces. Once adopted, these policies will be used to determine planning applications locally along with the South Downs Local Plan.



Consultation on the submission (Regulation 16) version of the NDP is taking place on the dates set out below:

  • Consultation start: 09:00 Monday 11th June 2018

  • Consultation end: 23:59 Monday 23rd July 2018


All representations received from this consultation will be forwarded to an independent examiner appointed to consider the NDP. During the consultation period, the plan can be viewed here
